Hiya folks, If you’ve been paying attention to some update posts on GroupMe or seen some of our new posts you may have noticed that the Catholic Gators Blog has suddenly moved to a swanky new platform and gotten a swanky new name. “The Epistle?” Sounds like an old-timey newspaper that your dad pretends he likes to read doesn’t it? So why did we pick that name and what does it mean for the future of the Catholic Gators blog? I’m sure you’re at the edge of your seat, drooling in utter anticipation waiting for all those juicy, mouth-watering details. Well, in short we wanted to give the blog a face. No longer will we have a simple blog that’s just… “the blog.” We are going to have “The Epistle!” A real boy, full of hopes and dreams! A beacon to lead us closer to the light! A glorious cry of justic- okay but to answer seriously, we would like to make the blog more of a tangible entity that is more clear in its purpose beyond displaying peoples’ writings.
What exactly is that purpose you ask? Our purpose is to reflect the love of Christ through writing. Whether it is a post about reflecting on a Sunday reading, or a quirky topic about the Bishop of the Moon, we seek to write about the Church and her body which act as a small mirror into the bottomless fountain of God’s love. Just as Paul sent his epistles (wink wink), we wish to write to you an endless amount of letters about so many various things, all encapsulating in one way or another the simplest and most important message that God loves you.
The Epistle gives us great opportunities for us who write as well! Though writing may seem to only act as a cute form of entertainment, it has the ability to aid us in our innate Christian mission, leading ourselves and others closer to Christ. Our Church is filled with limitless depths that are waiting for us to learn more about in order to build a firmer relationship with Christ. Those depths include not just the lives of the Saints and workings of the Church, but your own life and experiences as well. And that is where we are mainly trying to dig. Digging towards the depths of our lives that allow us to serve as better Christians, influence others, and ultimately become closer with Christ ourselves. The words of our Patron, Saint Augustine, echo this as well as he said,
“We who preach and write, do so in a manner different from which the Scriptures have been written. We write while we make progress. We learn something new every day. We speak as we still knock for understanding.”
I truly hope that you are all knocking for understanding, whether you want to write for The Epistle or become a faithful reader. Let us bring glory to Christ with the gift of writing, our lives, and spreading of Christ’s love.
